Joint Schools will be offered twice a year in February and July, and they will last for 1 month (4½ weeks) each. Specialised courses on PhD-level will be offered in the Joint Schools. Teachers are assigned / chosen according to their field of expertise. Each student enrolled in the Joint Doctoral Programme has to attend 3 Joint Schools.
Geo-Engineering and Water Management is a doctoral programme offered jointly by:
- Graz University of Technology,
- University of Zagreb,
and in cooperation with
- University of Maribor and
- Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

In addition, guest students (e.g. students enrolled in a PhD programme at a different universities, people from industry, academics, etc.) can attend upon request.

Course Content
This Curriculum for Joint Doctoral Programme (termed “JDP” for convenience) is arranged asa series of articles. The content of these articles covers the following: regulations andaccreditation of postgraduate classes required to obtain a doctoral degree; policies andprocedures related to postgraduate training; and, general information about the programmeincluding submission and examination of the doctoral thesis. The postgraduate classes areorganised in accordance with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System(ECTS).
The JDP presented in this document allows students from four Universities to obtain adoctoral degree in the area of Geo-Engineering and Water Management. The participatingUniversities and Faculties in this Joint Doctoral Programme (JDP) are:

The full scope of this Joint Doctoral Programme (JDP) includes four parts:
- Postgraduate classes (both at the parent University and in Joint Schools)
- Research and preparation (writing) of doctoral thesis

- Doctoral examinationLectures of the Joint Schools will be carried out by teaching staff at all the participatingUniversities. Lectures and exams will be conducted in English. It is also a requirement thatthe doctoral thesis should be submitted in English. The Study Council consists of professors and doctoral students at all four Universities. TheStudy Council is responsible for the quality management of the JDP. The constitution of theStudy Council is described in Article 3.
Requirements
Admission to the Joint Doctoral Programme is a two step process.
- Admission at the home university
Students need to apply for admission at their home university; in order to be admitted, students need to fullfil the requirements as defined by the respective university, and students need to find a supervisor at their home university.

University of Zagreb - Admission to the Joint Doctoral Programme
Once students have been admitted to the doctoral programme at their home university, they can apply for admission to the Joint Doctoral Programme. In order to do so, students need to fill out an online application, and put together an application package containing:
– signed application form
– copy of diploma (in English)
– letter of recommendation (signed by the supervisor)
– transcript of records (in English)
Students also need to prove their English language qualification. At this point, this may be done by attaching a statement signed by the supervisor.
The application package will be sent to the Study Council. The final decision concerning admission is made by the Study Council.
